Krishna
Janmashtmi is the day of Lord Krishna Birth. According to the epics of Hindu
Mythology Lord krishna was the incarnation of the period between 3200 and 3100
BC. It is believed that Lord krishna is the 8th son of the Vasudev
and Devki who born in the month of August-September, also known as Shravan Maas
as per Hindu calendar.
During
this period there was a devil king Kansa, the ruler of Mathura. When the
cruelty of king Kansa was its ultimateness, Mother Earth denies to bear the
burden of its sins and requested to Lord Brahma for help. On the appeal of
Mother Earth, Lord Brahma urged to the Lord Vishnu, he promised to take birth
on the earth and destroy all the evil forces.
On
the other side that devil King Kansa has a beautiful sister named Devaki. On
the day of the marriage when Kansa was see off
his sister Devaki and her husband Vasudev after marriage rituals an
akashvani or forecast was heard that the 8th son the the Devaki demolish
the evil kingdom of the Kansa. To hear this forecast Kansa was frightened and instantly
unsheathed his sword to slay Devaki but Vasudeva pledges him to leave Devaki and
promised him to deliver every infant to him. Kansa accept Vasudeva offer but
imprisoned both Vasudev and Devaki.
It
is beginning of the game of infants bloodshed, Kansa ordered his army to kill
all the infants of the state. In addition to this, when Devaki first child was
born, Kansa slaughtered the infant. Likewise he killed 7th infant and when its turn to the birth 8th
child of Vasudev and Devaki both started lamenting their fate. When Lord
Krishna appeared Vasudeva and Devaki both were hypnotized, every soldier were slept
and all the massive doors of the prison were unlocked, Vasudev carry infant to
his lap and started for Gokul to his friend’s house, the cowherd ruler Nanda. When
Vasudev crossed the river Yamuna, she increases the level of the water to touch
the feet of Lord Vishnu. Apart from this, when rain started a thousand-mouth
snake followed him and provide shelter to the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
At
the same time Nanda’s wife Yashoda also given a birth to a daughter. Where he
exchanged the infants and returned to the prison of Kansa. When Kansa went to
kill 8th infant, he felt surprise to see a girl, the moment Kansa
tried to kill her she flew in the sky
and turned into the goddess Yogmaya, who said: “O foolish, what will you find
to kill me? Your destroyer is already born somewhere else” and disappeared.
Next
day, all the people of Gokul celebrated the birth of the Nanda’s child. When Kansa
heard the prodigy of the Nanda’s son Krishna, he tried many times to kill him
but manqué. In his youth Krishna killed the Kansa and release his parents from
prison.
Janmashtmi Fast
Devotees
from all over the world take fast on the day of Janmashtmi. Devotees go to the
temple and offer milk made sweets to the lord Krishana, chant sloke or mantra.
All devotees who take fast will open their fast on the midnight after the time
of Lord Krishna born.
